ELLA CROW
Performed by Dire Coyote - Written by Ella Crow
Debut album written by and fronted by Ella Crow, blending poetry, soul, and traditional Americana with powerful vocals and intimate instrumentals.
About the album
As the title of the album says, this album is all about taking shape. Ella wrote these songs on planes, trains, bedrooms, and practice rooms during her time at Kenyon College in Ohio and while studying abroad in Vienna, Austria. While most of the songs pull details from her own life, Ella likes to explore metaphors around childhood and growing up (like the imagery of backyards in “Red Light” and walks home from school in “Mouthful”).
This album covers themes of love, friendship, sexual assault, depression, and anxiety — the whole nine yards! The album ends on the titular track, while Ella wrote the day before she flew to Phoenix, Arizona, to record the album. It closes with a recognition that, despite the confidence needed to put together a story, Ella ultimately doesn’t know where she’s going… but she knows she’s slowly starting to take shape.
